What a night! Thank you to everyone who came out to run, marshal, volunteer, and cheer as part of the return of the 2000 Perch. All being well, we’re aiming to bring it back in 2027.

About the 2000 Perch
Race Date: Friday 3 July 2026
Location: Epsom Downs Racecourse
Distance: 10km (mixed terrain)
The Perch was a regular fixture in the Surrey running calendar through the 2000s and is now being brought back by Epsom Oddballs Running Club. The race takes its name from an old English unit of measurement. 2000 perch works out at just over six miles, and the original Perch races were run over that traditional distance. Previous editions have been held on Epsom Downs and in Nonsuch Park. The 2026 race keeps that spirit but moves to a 10km single-lap route across Epsom Downs. It’s undulating but very runnable, with wide views of the beautiful Downs.

The Course
The race starts and finishes inside the Epsom Racecourse near the Tea Hut and Tattenham Corner. From the start, runners follow the inner side of the racecourse railings heading west before crossing the Racecourse near 7th Furlong Car Park. The run the heads towards Epsom Lane North before following bridleways and footpaths towards Downs Way Close and then up the first serious hill of Downs Way. A right hand turn takes us into Motts Hill Lane where the water station can be found after 4.4km. Some welcome respite in the form of Ebbisham Lane downhill then takes us back towards the racecourse. A section comprising footpath, sand and grass follows as runners loop around Langley Vale from the south. The final couple of KMs sweep around the eastern perimeter of the Racecourse close to Langley Vale Road. Once the Grandstand is in sight there’s one final turn before the finishing straight back towards the finish near Tattenham Corner.
Approx. 70% off-road and 30% road/hard trail.
Approximately 180m elevation gain.
